I REALLY HATE DOUBLE STANDARDS! (see the caps! yes I was really shouting as I typed that!)
At work the dress code is "business casual". Apparently this means many different things to many different people. In my department it has been an "issue" basically the entire time I've worked here! (September 18th will be 2yrs)
I will admit I used to slack...I would wear jeans on days other than friday once in a great while. Not once did it ever go unnoticed. Three times over the last two winters I wore my slightly over casual hoody on a friday, that didn't go unnoticed either. A couple months ago attention was drawn to my shoes (I have really weird feet, and comfortable/bareable shoes are hard to find), I wore my white DC shoes to work. They where always clean and "new" looking, but I bought black heals that were more "work appropriate" to "solve" the issue.
Today was the kicker for me. "S" we will call her, just got back from vacation, and today decided to wear flip-flops, a skirt (length appropraite) and....layered TANK TOPS! Yes, tank tops...not a nice sleaveless top, but run of the mill tank tops! WTF?!
WTF!!!!
I am always told that because I'm the receptionist, and am the first point of contact that what I wear matters more. Alright...understandable. But my feet are under/behind my desk any time I'm dealing with people. The couple of jeans slip up at least I wore nice nonchemically dyed jeans (which actually according to the companies dress code is appropriate)....She wears TANK TOPS on a day when she is doing ergonomic assesments for executives, and she doesn't have anything said to her....BLAH!
*sigh* there was another double standard I was going to go off on, but now I don't remember.
It probably doesn't help that today and tomorrow I'm working 15hrs(each day...that's 30hrs of work within 48hrs!), which really blows.
I would really just like to take a nap and then knit for a while!
OMG June has, and will continue to be, BUSY! Why is it that the times when I want to knit the most are the times when I have NO time to do it?!
Between work, work, and moving (slowly moving is a pain at times! last night I brought 90% of my knitting stuff and other misc things that are already in storage bins over to my new place. Can't move the big stuff in until after the 26th, cause the carpets are getting cleaned, and a cleaning person is going to come and "de-boy-ify" the place.) I only have time to hang out with C for a couple more weeks before he leaves for Europe, so a great deal of my time is being spent there too.
So I finished my "shrug" for graduation...kind of rushed it, and ended up finishing it Saturday morning! It took longer than I thought, and ended up being shorter than I had wanted. I did get several compliments on it, that made me very happy! Now I just need to get some pics of it on here!
I spent several hours this morning looking at new stitch patterns...I'm very excited about most of them! I also have a new image in my head of how I would like to make a scarf with a hood...or a scarf with a hood and hand warmer ends! lol, forget making a beanie, then a scarf and then hand warmers, why not make them all in one joint piece?!
I'm really trying to think about the market in a snowy area! Since C is moving to Boulder, CO in August, maybe, hopefully some people there will see my stuff, and want it! If not C will have a different beanie to wear every day he's there!
I also really, really, really want to start on a sweater. I've looked at lots of patterns, and have some ideas about which general shape and method I would like to use...but no solid plans yet.
I also STILL have to make B's face mask! *sigh* Good thing snow is still a long way away!
*sigh* it's another boring day at the office. so to help pass the time I was catching up on some blogs and faerwear posted some of the new stuff she put on Etsy! I have an Etsy page (that hasn't gotten much exposure) that I haven't looked at in a while. So I started to browse the knitting section and needless to say it "inspired" me.
I have soooo many patterns that I've sketched, and have pictured in my head that I want to make! Plus I have my current project that is going to be taking up a good deal of time for the next month and that's 100 beanies for the homeless. Plus I have a shawl/shrug to finish before Saturday's Graduation. I have a baby blanket I need to get started on, and a blanket for a friends Bday which is in...oh...3 weeks!
All of these things would generally be not a big task for me to complete, I knit pretty quickly. Only problem...I'm working too much! 55-60hrs a week. that extra 15-20hrs at the coffee shop is getting to me a lot more than I thought it would. I guess that's because last year when I was working both jobs (60-70hrs a week) I still had time for school and the BF, and everything was fine. Now I have hobbies (not that I didn't knit before, just not as much as I do now) and I want time for those hobbies that work is taking up.
Always so much to do and never enough time to do them in!
I'm miss jeans and t's all the time! I own 3 skirts, 2 of which are for work when
It will be white, with a seed stitch border, and herring bone stitch "body"!
I have to go to get white yarn tomorrow, since I used all of what I had in my stash to make swatches! I'm very excited about it! C is even excited to see me make something I will wear that isn't a scarf, beanie or hand warmers!
I will post my progress on Friday, since I have to work at the coffee shop tomorrow night and don't plan on getting very far.
So Life with Cats has tagged me for a meme, which is a new concept for me! I don't have enough people in my neighbourhood to tag (it's supposed to be 5-6)....But here are my answers to the questions posted by Life with Cats:
1) What were you doing ten years ago? lol, 10 yrs ago...I was a freshman in High School! I played Softball, mowed yards for cash, and started babysitting!
2) Five (non-work) things on my to-do list for today: (since today is pretty much over, i'll give my list for tomorrow!) Read some of Northanger Abbey, pick up my knitting needles, spend some time with my kitty, start going through my stuff to start moving, take a nap!
3) Snacks I enjoy: Does Coffee count as a snack?! Crunchy Cheeto's, Mini choc donuts
4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire: buy a house for me, buy each of my siblings a house, pay off my parents houses, buy a BMW!
5) Places I have lived: Parma, ID: Lewiston, ID: Santa Ana, CA: Aliso Viejo, CA: Irvine, CA
6) Jobs I have had: M&W Markets, courtesty clerk: Shopko, Front Desk Supervisor: Flying J, cashier: Hollywood Video, cashier/customer service: CRHO Architects, Admin: Headway Corp, Admin Temp: Fidelity Capital, Office Manager: Toshiba, Receptionist: It's A Grind, Barista(sp?!)
7) Peeps I want to know more about: Everyone!
lol, Alright I answered the questions, but I'm afraid I'm going to break the chain and not tag other people!
So it's been quite a while! Major update...I have a place to move next month with my kitty! YAY! The place with my "friend" did end up coming through after all! So excited that I won't have to move for min a year, or it could work out to being there for 2, or even 3 years!!! By far the greatest news I've gotten in the last couple weeks!
In other news C and I "hanging out" again. I'm not really sure what that means or what will happen, but I'm going to enjoy my time with him until he leaves for Europe next month, and then again in the Fall when he goes to Colorado for Grad school. Part of me feels like an idiot and that I'm simply setting myself up for heart break again, but at the same time...I can't help myself!
I've also been doing some knitting. Last weekend I made an awesome blue and black beanie (I need to get a pic of that!) and got 1/2 way through one like it that is white and purple. This weekend I plan to finish that one and start on a face mask from my friend B, lol, he's been after me for months to make him one. Even though the weather isn't quite right for it. I've found a few awesome patterns, but they all say to knit in the round, and I don't like doing that, I leave horrible "ladders" my seaming of things knitted flat is much better! So I'm going to try to play with the patterns I've found, alter them a tad, and make a "beta" version! lol, then if it's not right, I still have lots of time until we see snow again, to make more!
Also next month I'm going to start my personal winter charity project. My goal is to knit 100 beanies to be donated to a local shelter for this winter. It's a good thing I have a HUGE stash to pull from to make most of them! My aunt's also both have pretty good sized stashes that they said they would go through for me! I know 100 beanies sounds like A LOT, lol, and it is...but if I do them straight garter stitch, each one will only take about an hour! I'm excited for it!
I'm also working at the coffee shop again! So that is taking up a good chunk of weekend time. Along with reading, as much as I can as often as I can. So far this year I've read 7 books. Currently reading Kite Runner...OMG is all I can say right now about it! With only 75pgs to go...I hate putting it down!
So yeah, the awesome housing possibility offer that I was really banking on happening fell through.
Time for Plan B!
Meet lots of random people and hope that at least one of them will have both a nice place and not be creepy!
Why the h*ll do all the really nice places have to be so flipping expensive...and not want cats?! My cat is adorable, and I'm even willing to give a non refundable deposit, and keep her in my room! Blah!
Maybe I'll be able to find a friend she can stay with for a while if all else fails? But I don't want her to be with people she doesn't know in a place she doesn't know, cause she will just spend all her time hiding under the damn bed.
*sigh*
alright only on the color! hehe, so i was looking for motorcycle gear today (i'm just a lil bored at work) and found these amazingly awesome items!
now the only thing left to figure out is when i should be able to come up with the $800 to buy these lovely things! all of that will come after i get my living situation figured out. (have i mentioned recently how much i hate moving? cause i really, really, really do!)
What are your top five break-up songs?
Submitted by gt.
lol, this is sooo perfect for me right now! Since I just recently became single I have had "break-up" songs playing for the last 2 wks!
1. "Trying to Stop Your Leaving" ~ Dierks Bentley
2."Love Don't Live Here" ~ Lady Antebellum
3. "What Hurts the Most" ~ Rascal Flatts
4. "The Dance" ~ Garth Brooks
5. "Gone" ~ Montgomery Gentry
lol, there are lots more too, but those are the first 5 I always add to my list!
Well I finished Tuedays with Morrie, I highly recommend it to everyone! I honestly don't think there is a person out there that wouldn't benefit at least in some way from it. Not to mention it was an incredibly easy read, I finished it in 3 days!
Now I'm reading Friday Night Knitting Club...so far...I really like it!
In other news I got an interesting offer from a friend about a place to live! It would be my ideal place, and something I had actually considered asking about, and was slightly surprised when she beat me to it! If that actually works out...OMG all my current worries would be GONE! lol, everyone cross your fingers for me on that!
Along with the (possible) offer for a place and that happening, it would totally make it soo much easier to get the motorcycle I want sooner than I have been hoping for!
Plus I'm on the schedule again at the coffee shop for next weekend, so more monies! lol, and that's always a good thing!
I hate to say it but a lot is riding on one lil decision, but if it comes through...life will be good and easy for me!
Honestly the main reason I make my own designs...lol, I can't read patterns or keep track of them for anything!... read more
on I want to knit...
